Oregon State's drives lasted longer than they were worth
The Houston loss is not the game the 20-33 line suggests. Oregon State went three-and-out on only 16.7% of twelve possessions — that is a functioning early-down offense — and still scored on 25.0% of them at 32.2 yards a drive. Gaining ground and then stalling is a different problem from going backwards, and it is the harder one to repair inside a week, because the failures come deeper in the field where mistakes are more expensive.
Texas Tech's 33-10 win was the inverse. The Red Raiders were three-and-out on 33.3% of twelve drives — more often than Oregon State — and still scored on 66.7% of them at 47.2 yards a possession. The reverse side is uglier. Oregon State's short-yardage and power offense grades 1.14 standard deviations below what Texas Tech's front concedes, and staying on schedule is 1.67 below — the largest deficit the Beavers carry into the game. Those two numbers together describe a team living on third-and-medium and converting it rarely, which is a restatement of the Houston box score rather than a forecast of something new.
Murphy is the only Oregon State piece with a real range

Oregon State scored 20 on Houston at a 25.0% drive-scoring rate; hold that same rate here, with fewer possessions likely once Texas Tech starts finishing its own, and the projected 6 stops looking like an insult and starts looking like arithmetic.
How Oregon State gets to a cover
The realistic Beaver path runs through the total, not the result.
