Pitch qualityqualified starters · 46
Jacob Misiorowski grades best at 130, led by a four-seam fastball graded 147. Among these 46 starters, the rank correlation between stuff and ERA is 0.32 — better stuff goes with a better ERA, but loosely.
Our Stuff+ grade: how nasty a pitcher's pitches are from their physical shape alone (velocity, spin, movement, extension, release), 100 = league average, 10 points = one standard deviation. It cannot see command, sequencing or results — which is why ERA sits beside it. How it is built
Where these come from
Leaders and season lines are the MLB Stats API's, regular season only, qualified by MLB's own rule. The pitch-quality grades are ours (model/mlb/stuff.py): a gradient-boosted model of each pitch's run value from its release and movement, averaged per pitcher. The board lists only qualified starters we have graded; relievers are graded too, and their grades show on their player pages.
